RST II: The Final Day of the Required Staff Training

by C/SMSgt Micah Larson c/PAO NC wing encampment

Location: Justice Academy East
Date: June 14 2009

As the sun revealed itself on the dawn of the final day of RST, the encampment cadet staff at the training rolled out of their warm beds to face morning PT. Unlike the day before, the physical training would be run by squadron staff. After long rounds of flutter-kicks, push-ups, sun-gods, various stretches, and a 0.7 mile run, the cadets filed into the cafeteria for mess. When breakfast was over, there were showers. Once changed into their BDU’s they met in the conference room for the parting note of the weekend-an OI test. The OI, standing for “Operational Instructions”, would be the manual for basic cadets, which contained all the knowledge that they would need to memorize during encampment. Since the staff would be quizzing them, it only made sense that the followers should lead by example and study the OI as well. Now came time for the test. Although only ten questions long, they ranged on topic from Marine ranks, to whom the Middle East region liaison officer was. Once the 10 minutes that had been designated for the test were up, the cadet staff separated to pack their bags and had “squadron time”. Lasting for roughly forty-five minutes, this ended with out-processing and a closing formation. Afterwards they were free to leave and the required Staff Training for the NC wing 2009 Nat-Cap Encampment was officially over.
